Quarterfinal results, semifinal pairings for DIAA Boys Basketball Tournament

The state’s only undefeated team was the only one to win on the road in the DIAA Boys Basketball Tournament quarterfinals on Tuesday night.

Sixth-seeded Smyrna knocked off No. 3 Howard 59-50. And the Eagles will have to score another road win to reach the championship game.

Thursday’s semifinal games will start at 6:30 p.m., as follows:

► No. 4 Tower Hill (12-2) at No. 1 Sanford (14-2), no spectators allowed.

► No. 6 Smyrna (18-0) at No. 2 Salesianum (12-3), two spectators per athlete on each team allowed.

Sanford pulled away in the third quarter to post a 54-38 quarterfinal win over Appoquinimink. Tower Hill dominated Seaford from start to finish in a 56-25 victory, earning the school’s first appearance in the boys hoops semifinals.

It will be the third meeting of the season between the Delaware Independent Schools Conference rivals. The Warriors won 54-49 at home on Feb. 13, and 45-34 at Tower Hill on Feb. 25.

Salesianum reached the semifinals with a 61-47 home victory over Tatnall.

The championship games of both the DIAA girls and boys tournaments have been moved to Dover High School.

The girls final will tip off at 6 p.m. Friday, with the boys final starting at 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Two spectators per athlete on each team will be allowed for the finals.
