Eagles opponent: Could Delaware's David Sills make NFL debut for spoiler Giants?

Delaware native David Sills V was once a child prodigy quarterback. Now, he's a wide receiver in his first professional season waiting to make his NFL debut after the New York Giants promoted him from their practice squad last week.

He was inactive in New York's win over Washington Sunday.

On a conference call Eagles media Thursday, Giants coach Pat Shurmur said Sills, who grew up in Bear and started his high school career at Red Lion Christian Academy, is "close to playing. Whether or not he does, I don’t know here in the last game."

The Giants' receivers ahead of Sills include the likes of Sterling Shepard, Golden Tate, Cody Latimer, Darius Slayton and Da'Mari Scott, so Sills making his debut seems like a long shot, and Shurmur's response is likely him just not tipping his hand on what his active roster will look like Sunday afternoon in East Rutherford, New Jersey, where the Eagles will try to win the NFC East and go to the playoffs.

Sills originally committed to USC at age 13 to play quarterback but ended up playing wide receiver at West Virginia, where he posted near-1,000-yard seasons in both his junior and senior year.

He wasn't drafted, but signed with the Buffalo Bills for training camp before eventually ending up on the Giants' practice squad, where he spent the entire NFL season before Week 16.

"He’s done a good job of sort of learning what we’re doing," Shurmur said.

"We just feel like he’s going to be an outstanding player to try to develop here in our system. Obviously he has been doing it through the season here, but certainly into the offseason."

That offseason begins Monday, but not after rookie QB Daniel Jones, running back Saquon Barkley and the rest of the Giants have a chance to spoil the Eagles' season.

Prediction

It's hard to predict which Giants team we'll get Sunday. Will Jones, Barkley and co. be motivated to play spoiler? Will the Giants try to get through their players who will be around here beyond this season through the game healthy and pull some guys?

Will players be motivated for what could be Shurmur's last game?

Even still, the Eagles held Barkley to 66 yards on 17 carries last time out. They forced Eli Manning to beat them with his arm, and he couldn't. They will likely do the same to Jones, who was marvelous last week and has a chance to finish his season on a high note despite his inconsistencies.

But the guess here is that if Dak Prescott, Amari Cooper, Ezekiel Elliott and Michael Gallup couldn't break the Eagles' defense, the Giants won't either.

And the way the Eagles' offense looked last week, points should be easy to come by.

Score: Eagles 24, Giants 13

Around the NFC East

Dallas

Not only is Jason Garrett's job in question, but now people are wondering whether or not Cooper is part of the team's future. The wide receiver is a free agent at the end of the year, and was absent in last week's loss in Philly.

As for Garrett, it's hard to imagine that if things go, according to probabilities, and the Eagles win and eliminate the Cowboys that Garrett will be back next year. That it's only partially his fault doesn't matter.

Washington

Washington may have lost itself into the second pick in the NFL Draft, and will likely have the opportunity to take an Ohio State prospect for the second straight year in the first round. Defensive end Chase Young is the presumed second pick. He'd fill a hole, but Washington has a lot of them.

Washington is in a similar situation to the Giants, except a win could bump it to the third pick in the draft.
